“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
I love brainstorming sessions! There is something that happens when I dream of the possibility of a better tomorrow. When I am in a “dream big, no limits” type meeting, I can hardly contain myself!
There is a wonderful seduction in the promise of a new tomorrow. However, I pay the price for it when I lose sight of the gifts of the present moment. My brain wanders south pretty quickly when I play and replay thoughts like: If only we had ____. If only there was___. If only we could_____.
Anthony DeMello tells the following story: “A man who took great pride in his lawn found himself with a large crop of dandelions. He tried every method he knew to get rid of them. Still they plagued him. Finally he wrote the Department of Agriculture and enumerated all the things he had tried and closed his letter with the question: ‘What shall I do now?’ In due course, the reply came: ‘We suggest you learn to love them.'”
Prayer: Lord, help us to see the gifts you give us in this moment. Guide our dreams of new tomorrows so that your will is done. Help us to love the dandelions. Amen.
